Union County NC Schools--Which School Will My Child Attend?

Which Union County school will my child attend?

If you are moving to Union County NC, you will want to know which school your child will attend.  Union County Public Schools (UCPS) is a county-wide system with a group of assignment areas called school clusters.  These areas don’t correspond with town boundaries.  Each cluster is a grouping of several elementary schools that feed into a middle and a high school.  Elementary schools have 500 to 900 students and the middle and high schools between 1100 and 1400 students.  Many clusters have the middle school and the high school on the same campus.  Sometimes an elementary school is nearby as well.

Union County School Clusters

Listed below are clusters that serve county small towns and nearby unincorporated areas.  A link to each cluster provides a list of schools in the cluster, more details about the schools and some neighborhoods that are assigned to the area.

Cluster Areas Served
Porter Ridge Parts of Stallings, Indian Trail and Monroe
Weddington Parts of Weddington, Stallings and Wesley Chapel
Marvin Ridge Parts of Marvin and Waxhaw
Cuthbertson Parts of Waxhaw and Wesley Chapel
Sun Valley Parts of Indian Trail and Monroe

Will my child’s assignment area change?

School assignment areas can change because UCPS is a county-wide system and the assignment areas are set by the county school board.  During the 2000s, Union County was a high growth area.  New schools were built during this time and new clusters were created.  Assignment areas had to change as new schools were populated.  Growth slowed during the recession stabilizing assignment areas.  If growth picks up again, new schools may have to be added and assignment areas will be subject to change.

You can contact the Office of School Assignment at 704-296-1006 to determine or verify your family’s assigned schools.
