Fun Things to Do in Charlotte NC--Shakespeare at The Green
Have you ever visited The Green in uptown Charlotte?
It’s a wonderful little park with whimsical statues and green space. A
multi-story condominium building with restaurants on the first floor and the
lovely old St. Peter’s Church enclose opposite sides of the park giving the
space an intimate feel.
The Green is also the setting for the first performances in the annual Charlotte Shakespeare
Festival, a free performing arts festival. Last Saturday evening a full
moon rose over The Green and provided the perfect setting for The Tempest, the
first play in this year’s festival. The beautiful cool weather encouraged
people to bring their blankets, chairs and baskets of food to enjoy the show. A
musician entertained the crowd for 45 minutes before the play began.
The Tempest will be performed from Wednesday through Saturday, June 16 at
8:00pm at the Green. On Sundays, June 10 and June 17, the play begins at 6:00pm
with an educational Shakespeare workshop at 5:00pm.
In August when the weather drives everyone inside to air conditioning, the
Festival will present The Merchant of Venice at the McGlohon Theater at Spirit
Square. The Merchant of Venice will run from August 15th through August
