Union County NC Small Towns Named Best Places to Live in North Carolina

Four Union County NC small towns have been ranked among the top 20 best places to live in 2012 by an article in Yahoo Voices. Marvin and Weddington were ranked #1 and #2 respectively. Waxhaw came in at #16 and Wesley Chapel at #19.

Yahoo Voices rated incorporated municipalities with more than 2000 people based on three criteria: median household income, percentage of residents 25 and over who have a bachelor’s degree or higher, and property crime rates per 1000 residents. Read the complete article here.

Median Household Income

  • Marvin $177,058
  • Weddington $135,833
  • Waxhaw $ 91,078
  • Wesley Chapel $ 90,604

Educational Attainment

  • Marvin 60.3%
  • Weddington 53.1%
  • Waxhaw 44.6%
  • Wesley Chapel 39.5%

Property Crime Rate (per thousand residents)

  • Marvin 5.04
  • Weddington 5.04
  • Waxhaw 5.04
  • Wesley Chapel 5.04

Those of us who live in Union County NC would add other reasons to rank its small towns as best places to live: beautiful rolling countryside, a mild four-season climate, great public schools and lower tax rates.
