Charlotte Relocation--Where Can I Find A Basement Home?
Moving to Charlotte from
the north? If so, your first question to me will probably be
about homes with basements. As in, where can I find a basement home in
Charlotte?

It’s true that most homes in Charlotte don’t have basements. They’re not
necessary as the ground doesn’t freeze here. There’s no need to dig footers for
the foundations below the frost line.
If you do find a home with a basement, it’s likely to be what we call a
“daylight basement”. That is, a basement built into the side of a hill with at
least one wall open to the outdoors. We also call them “walk-out basements”.
None of those completely underground basements for us.
To answer your question… yes, you can find a basement home in Charlotte. You
are more likely to find a basement in a higher priced home. Because basements
aren’t necessary here, builders of modestly-priced homes typically don’t include
them to keep costs down. As homes climb in price to the luxury level, basements
are likely to have the same finishes and features as the above-grade rooms.
Many of them will have second kitchens and beautiful terraces and outdoor
fireplaces.
