Due Diligence for Charlotte NC Home Buyers—What About
Crime?

What about the crime in this area or in this neighborhood?
If you are a Charlotte NC home buyer, you may wish to
investigate crime near your chosen property during the due diligence period of
your contract. This post will help you understand where you can go to find this
information and give you some links to get started.
Local Police Departments
Before you can find crime statistics in the Charlotte area, you need to
understand how the police departments are organized. In Mecklenburg County, the
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department covers all of Charlotte and
unincorporated Mecklenburg County. The Towns of Matthews
and Mint
Hill, each within Mecklenburg County, have their own police departments.
In Union
County, the Union County Sheriff’s Department provides police protection for
unincorporated areas of the county plus coverage in many of the small towns. Monroe,
Stallings,
and Waxhaw
have their own police departments.
Once you’ve determined where your chosen property is located, you can
identify who provides police service for it. Then you are ready to go online to
see crime statistics. If you have specific concerns, you may also wish to
contact law enforcement officers directly with your questions.
