Matthews Alive Festival--A Great Place to Spend Labor Day Weekend
Matthews Alive Festival—A Great Place to Spend Labor Day
Weekend

Historic downtown Matthews hosts the Southeast’s largest Labor Day
festival every year. It’s called Matthews Alive and 2011
festivities start Friday evening, September 2nd. Matthews Alive will fill the
town center with fun activities for the whole family from September 2nd through
Monday September 5th.
What are some of the activities and entertainment that you’ll find at
Matthews Alive this year?
Head over to Stumptown
Park where a variety of bands will play at the band shell. Two
bands will play beach music on Friday night from 7pm to 10pm. You can listen to
rock bands on Saturday from 12:30pm to 9pm. Sunday’s entertainment will feature
Christian music and local church choirs from 12:30pm to 9pm. More rock bands
will play on Monday from 11:30 to 5pm.
Watch the Southeast’s largest Labor Day Parade on Saturday morning
from 10am until noon. This traditional parade will include floats,
marching bands, fire trucks and neighborhood groups.
Take the youngsters to the Kids Connection where you’ll find
activities for children ages ten and under. There will be train rides
and pony rides. A children’s stage will feature ventriloquists, magicians, and
clowns throughout the festival. There’s also a carnival midway with rides and
amusements for all ages.
Cool off in the Matthews
Community Center while you browse through the quilt show, the basket show
and an art show. An arts and crafts pavilion surrounds the Community
Center and Matthews Elementary School with over 160 booths.
See classic cars and motorcycles at the 2011 Matthews Auto and
Motorcycle Classic. Vehicles will be on display on Monday September
5th from 9am to 4pm.
