Celebrate the Christmas Season in Matthews NC

Celebrate the Christmas Season in Matthews NC

The weather outside was frightful.  For Matthews NC, that is.  Forty degrees and sleet.

The rain and the cold didn’t stop the Hometown Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting on Saturday.  The Matthews Village Green was decorated with Christmas wreaths and greenery.  A horse-drawn carriage provided rides along the quaint streets in downtown Matthews.  A children’s choir sang holiday music.

If you wanted to get warm, you could visit the old Matthews train depot where the Matthews Chamber of Commerce is headquartered.  Entries for the Gingerbread House Contest were on display there.  You could find more of them in the library across the Village Green.

Enjoy these photos of some of the gingerbread houses that were on display.  Some were made by students at the Johnson & Wales culinary school in Charlotte.  Other were made by local Matthews school children.

It’s not too late to enjoy the Hometown Holiday celebrations in Matthews NC.
