Brilliant blue skies. 70 degree temperatures. Golden leaves on the trees. Yesterday couldn’t have been a more perfect day for a parade.

Our northern friends think of snow, mittens, and hot cocoa when they contemplate Christmas activities. Here in Union County NC, we couldn’t be happier with a warm sunny day to celebrate the upcoming holiday season. Santa Claus and the Grinch both enjoyed the Union County Christmas Parade that wound through downtown Monroe NC yesterday.

Beauty queens of all ages, area high school marching bands, antique cars and tractors, and big semis with dueling horns pulling floats added color to the street scene. Thousands of people lined the streets of Monroe to enjoy the spectacle.

Every Union County NC small town celebrates the Christmas holiday. Some host parades. Most have Christmas tree lighting ceremonies. Others have several weeks of holiday activities.
