Porter Ridge Middle School opened in 2005 as a part of a 183-acre campus that includes Porter Ridge Elementary and Porter Ridge High School.  The name of the school comes from the first name of the landowner, Porter Byrum, who donated land for the complex and from Ridge Road where the campus is located.

Porter Ridge Middle serves Grades 6 through 8 with student enrollment over 1000.  Class sizes average 22 to 25 students.  The school operates on a traditional calendar with the 2010-2011 school year beginning on August 25, 2010.

Sports available at Porter Ridge Middle in the fall include volleyball, cheerleading and football.  Winter sports are basketball and wrestling.  Golf, soccer, softball and baseball are available in the spring.

Porter Ridge Middle School serves areas north of Highway 74 in Stallings NC and Indian Trail NC.  Elementary schools that feed the Porter Ridge cluster include Hemby Bridge, Porter Ridge, Poplin and Stallings plus portions of Fairview and Sardis elementaries.  Porter Ridge Middle feeds into Porter Ridge Senior High.
