Union County NC has numerous small towns within its borders but do you know how many people live in these small towns? The U.S. Census Bureau and the North Carolina State Budget office create new estimates of county and municipal population every year. They have just released the 2007 estimates.
The numbers will help you compare the towns with each other and, if you are a newcomer or considering a move to the Charlotte region, you can compare these towns with your own town.

Remember that not every Union County resident lives within a small town. Many live in unincorporated Union County but may have a Waxhaw or Indian Trail mailing address. Union County's total population in 2007 is estimated to be 182,344.
How do these numbers compare with Union County's neighbors just to the north? City of Charlotte has 671,588 residents, Matthews has 26,600, and Mint Hill has 19,767. Mecklenburg County, where these municipalities are located, has 863,147 inhabitants. Compared to its neighbors, Union County does indeed offer small town living.
