More News about the Bridges of Mint Hill
The Mint Hill Times reports this week that construction work has stopped at the new Bridges of Mint Hill mall. According to the newspaper, General Growth Properties, the mall developer, ordered site work stopped because land development has gotten ahead of infrastructure plans for the mall. The developer cannot proceed with the road improvements for the mall until the NC Department of Transportation approves the plans. Road improvements include a four-lane Lawyers Road with a landscaped median from Bain School Road to I-485 plus a traffic circle at Bain School Road and Lawyers Road, which will be the main entrance to the mall.
The mall developer says that construction will begin again after the first of the year but still has not set a date for a groundbreaking. The mall will open approximately two years after groundbreaking.
There are a number of naysayers who think and hope that mall construction is ended for good, but I wouldn't bet on that. It probably is a good bet, however, that the mall won't open as early as previously announced.
