Saturday Mornings in Downtown Matthews NC

Did you ever think of making art out of vegetables? Last Saturday was Vegetable Art Day at the Matthews Farmers Market. Take a look at the Matthews Farmers Market photo album and you will see Okie the okra and Zoe the zucchini sqash. Very creative.
Spend a few hours on Saturday mornings at the Matthews Farmers Market and enjoy one of the best markets in Piedmont Carolina. The market is open from 7:15 until noon every Saturday from April through November. It is a growers-only market from farms within 50 miles of Matthews, which means that customers buy food directly from local farmers. Offerings include not only vegetables but also grass fed beef, pastured pork, baked goods, local goat cheese, herbs and farm crafts.
One of my favorite areas is the chef's tent where chefs from local restaurants give cooking demonstrations and free samples. Live music is also a part of the market. Upcoming activities at the market include making corn dolls out of corn husks on July 19 and Tomato Tasting Day on July 26.
